Ginger Turmeric Tea (Gluten free, Dairy Free, Egg free, Soy free, Nut free)

This tea smells like your favorite warm holiday drink, but has completely different ingredients. I love drinking this tea all the time, but especially when I’m sick, have a stomach ache, or just feel like I need some anti-inflammatory goodness in my life. Since we use fresh ginger and turmeric, this tea has a nice kick of spice to it. This recipe makes a big batch that you can store in your refrigerator and then pour into individual cups whenever you’d like some. Follow the recipe down below to get this goodness in your life.

Let the tea making begin!

The steps:

  • You’ll start by boiling and simmering your water with ginger root, turmeric root, lemon peel, and some seasonings. Slice the ginger and turmeric into little rounds to let it get exposed to the boiling water.
  • Then, you’ll pour this mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a pitcher that has 6 tea bags in it. I love using the Celestial Seasonings Honey Lemon Ginseng tea for this.
  • After the tea bags have steeped for a couple minutes, remove the bags.
  • Add the reserved lemon juice and some sweetener to the mixture and stir to combine. I like to use about 10 drops of pure monk fruit sweetener, but you can also sweeten it to taste. Honey would be a great option too.
  • Your big batch of tea is now done. Cover the pitcher and store it in the fridge for about 5-7 days.
  • When you want to make an individual cup, pour about 1 and 1/4 cups into your mug, heat, and then add a splash of bone broth and about 1/2 tsp coconut oil. Enjoy!

Substitutions:

  • You can replace the Celestial Seasonings Honey Lemon Ginseng tea with different tea bags that would have a similar flavor. They would preferably have lemon mixed in.
  • The coconut oil and bone broth are optional. I like to add a little of each for their health benefits, but you can omit them and still have a really great tea.

Recommended kitchen items:

  • Lemon squeezer. This large capacity citrus juicer is great because it’s easy to squeeze and it fits large lemons and any size limes.
  • Stainless steel measuring utensils. The spoons are my favorite, because they fit in spice jars. I also love using stainless steel, instead of plastic.
  • Fine mesh strainers. This set of 3 fine mesh strainers have really come in handy in my kitchen. They’re great for sifting flour, dusting cocoa or powdered sugar, rinsing quinoa or beans, and the list goes on.

Ginger Turmeric Tea

Ingredients
  

  • 8 cups water (preferably purified)
  • ½ cup ginger root sliced
  • cup turmeric root sliced
  • 2 lemons
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (I like ceylon)
  • ¼ tsp sea salt
  • ¼ tsp fresh cracked pepper
  • 6 bags Celestial Seasonings Honey Lemon Ginseng Tea
  • monk fruit, honey, or stevia sweeten to taste (optional)
  • chicken bone broth for mixing into individual cups (optional)
  • coconut oil for mixing into individual cups (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Halve your lemons and squeeze the juice into a container to reserve until you mix it in later. Reserve the lemon peels.
  • Add your water, ginger root, turmeric root, lemon peels, cinnamon, salt, and pepper to a pot and bring to a boil.
  • Let the mixture boil for 5 minutes, and then turn the heat down, cover, and simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
  • Add your tea bags to a pitcher. then, strain the liquid from the stove through a fine mesh strainer into the pitcher. Let the tea bags steep according to the directions on the package. This should be about 2 minutes for the recommended tea.
  • Remove the tea bags and mix in the reserved lemon juice, and your sweetener of choice. I like to add about 10 drops of pure monk fruit sweetener, but every brand's potency will be different.
  • You can cover and store this tea in the refrigerator for about 5-7 days. When you want to make a cup, heat up the desired amount of tea (about 1¼ cups for me), and then mix in a splash of bone broth and about 1/2 tsp coconut oil. Enjoy!
