Easy Dairy Free Hot Chocolate (Vegan, Paleo, Gluten free, Dairy free, Soy free, Low sugar)

Hot chocolate really hits the spot on a cold day. This recipe puts a healthy spin on your favorite winter drink. Most hot chocolates have a lot of sugar, which leave you feeling yucky. This low sugar, naturally-sweetened hot chocolate quite frankly doesn’t do that, and somehow still tastes amazing. Try it out for yourself and double or triple the recipe for your family and friends.

Let the hot chocolate making begin!

The steps:

  • This couldn’t be easier! Start by adding all of the ingredients to a small blender. A normal sized blender would be fine if you were multiplying the recipe.
  • Blend the ingredients until very smooth. It would not be fun to drink banana chunks, so make sure it’s really, very smooth.
  • Heat your hot chocolate by using your microwave or a small saucepan on the stovetop.
  • Drink and enjoy!
Blending cup with hot chocolate ingredients. An open cup of sea salt and an open bottle of liquid stevia sit on the side.

Substitutions:

  • You can use your favorite nut butter. I used a homemade recipe that I’ll be sharing soon, but other good ones would be unsweetened peanut butter, almond butter, or cashew butter. Sunflower seed butter should work too if you’re nut free.
  • You can sub your favorite sweetener for the liquid stevia. Other good options would be monk fruit, maple syrup, honey, or coconut sugar.

Recommended kitchen items:

  • Stainless steel measuring utensils. The spoons are my favorite, because they fit in spice jars. I also love using stainless steel, instead of plastic.
  • Magic Bullet Mini. This is a great little blender for sauces or a smoothie when you’re out of town.
  • Blendtec blender. This is one of my absolute favorite appliances in my kitchen. (if multiplying this recipe)
  • Liquid stevia. This is a really good, organic, pure, alcohol free liquid stevia. A little goes a long way, so this bottle can last for several months, up to a year.

I hope you love this recipe, and would love to hear about how making it went for you! Share with me in the comments below, on Pinterest, or @whitsfoodfit on Instagram.
